A Wednesday evening house fire on the riverfront in Fairport claimed the life of one resident.
Authorities say multiple area fire departments responded to the structure fire reported in the 3300 block of Water Street about 5:30 p.m.
Fire departments from Montpelier, Durant, Blue Grass and others responded, fighting the fire throughout the night. The Blue Grass & Buffalo Fire Department also assisted to pump water from the Mississippi River.
Officials have not yet released any details about the victim.
The state fire marshal’s office and Muscatine County Medical Examiner’s office continue to investigate and will release more information as it is determined.
