Full enforcement of downtown parking regulations resumes June 1

The City of Muscatine will end the temporary suspension of certain parking ordinances on Monday, June 1.

As businesses in the downtown area are now open or in the process of opening, the City will begin to enforce the City Code provisions requiring coins be placed in the parking meters located both on-street and in the various downtown parking lots.

The City suspended the issuance of expired meter tickets in mid-March due to the COVID-19 health crisis in order to maintain convenient customer parking for the businesses that were still open including those food establishments doing take-out orders.

The City continued to enforce time limits on parking spaces even though many downtown businesses were forced to close as a result of Governor Reynolds Proclamation of Disaster Emergency.

The Parking Enforcement Program is intended to ensure that parking restrictions are followed in order to meet the goal of providing short-term parking for customers in the downtown business district. The program also enforces parking restrictions in loading zones, alley parking, and other parking regulations in the downtown area.
