Muscatine Power and Water nest box has cute new additions

New chicks in the Muscatine Power and Water nest box.

Muscatine Power and Water has some cute visitors in its Unit 7 nest box (one who clearly likes to pose)!

The peregrine falcons, the fastest creature on earth (and a state-endangered species), have some new additions to the nest box installed six years ago.

Since then, the box has seen five nests and a total of 11 babies. It’s one of 12 active nest sites in the state and is registered with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, who MPW shares seasonal reporting info with.

There are actually three babies in the nest, but one was camera shy. Their mother is tagged and came from another local falcon nest box and the father is a wild, un-banded falcon…proof of successful nesting efforts!Learn more about this beautiful state-endangered species here: https://www.iowadnr.gov/Co…/Iowas-Wildlife/Peregrine-Falcons
