A brief agenda highlights the Muscatine City Council meeting Thursday, but does include the authorization to proceed with several FEMA approved projects after the 2019 flood.
The Muscatine City Council will meet in a virtual session at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 3. Details on attending the virtual meeting are listed below.
The meeting will also be the first official meeting for Muscatine’s new City Administrator Carol Webb. After officially stepping into the City Administrator role on August 24, Webb has spent the first week and a half visiting the various City departments and meeting with the leadership team for the City of Muscatine.
Replacing the wooden fence along Spillway Lane, the chain link fence in Riverside Park, and the replacement of the concrete apron for the riverfront restroom facility are three projects that will receive funding from FEMA and the State of Iowa. The request to approve purchase orders for the City’s portion of the projects will be voted on by the Council Thursday night.
The Council will also hear a request to approve a resolution for the City to request reimbursement of costs associated with the COVID-19 health crisis through the Covid-19 Local Government Relief Fun from the State of Iowa. The resolution is one of the requirements to apply for the funds.
The Transit Division of the Department of Public Works will also receive funds from the CARES Act if the contracts are approved by the Council. The Transit Division received a grant of $201,274 for capital costs and a grant of $374,434 for operating costs.
Finance Director Nancy Lueck will wrap up the business portion of the meeting with a brief overview of how the City stands financially from COVID-19. The brief overview will be followed by a more detailed presentation in October once the books are officially closed on Fiscal Year 2019-2020.
