Iowa’s crop rating decline continues

The condition ratings for Iowa’s corn and soybean crops continued to decline last week.

The corn rating fell to 43 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 26 percent poor to very poor.  Soybeans were called 47 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor.

Over one-quarter of the corn crop was mature, about a week ahead of average. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 19 percent, also a week ahead of average and the highest percentage dropping leaves by this date since 2005.

Pasture condition fell four points this week to just 12 percent good to excellent. Over half of Iowa’s pastures are in poor to very poor condition.
