Up-tempo final quarter leads to win for Muskies

The Muscatine Muskies final regular season game was an entertaining one, to say the least. Though DJ Hawkins’ defense gave up a few big plays in the first half, they played solid and shut out the Davenport Central offense in the final two quarters.

The teams went into the half 14-7, Blue Devils with the lead. The third quarter was a quiet one as neither team scored.

The Muskie offense caught fire in the final stanza. Eli Gaye lead the offense on a pair of quick moving touchdown drives to take the lead 21-14 with 2:05 left in the game. Central had a chance to get themselves a score late in the game. However, a deep shot by Central quarterback Nate Hummel was picked off by David Dalbey in the endzone to seal the victory for the Muskies.
