Two Muscatine residents charged after being stopped in stolen vehicle


Two Muscatine residents were arrested Wednesday (October 28) after they were stopped at the intersection of Houser Street and Grandview Avenue in a vehicle that was reported stolen.

Officers of the Muscatine Police Department (MPD) were alerted to a stolen vehicle traveling into Muscatine along Mittman Road. MPD officers and Muscatine Sheriff’s Department deputies stopped the white 2013 GMC Sierra truck, owned by Aaron Hackett of 2253 Burlington Road, and took the two occupants, Matthew Ray Mason, 34, 1002 Illinois Street, Muscatine, and Shea Elizabeth Eitman, 40, 606 Woodlawn Avenue, Muscatine, into custody.

Mason was charged with 1st degree theft, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying weapons, 3rd degree theft, Class B possession of controlled substance, driving while barred, and two counts of 5th degree theft. He also had two active arrest warrants.

Eitman was charged with 1st degree theft, unlawful possession of prescription medication, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The two are also possible suspects connected to a stolen camper, which remains unaccounted for. The camper is owned by Travis Vick of 1616 Willow and is described as a white 1998 Dutchman travel trailer with license plate GR3566.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the stolen camper is asked to call Detective John Hessesling at (563) 263-9922 extension 665.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
