Rip rap restoration work begins on levee

Press Release:

Better By Design, LLC, of New Boston, Mo., has been contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform rip rap replacement along the Muscatine levee. That work began this week with the company using the old boat ramp area near the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Mississippi Drive as the staging area.

There will be large trucks bringing rock to the boat ramp area and there could be some congestion around the first row of parking spaces near the river during the work. The contractor will be making a wooden “drop zone” for the rip rap and then loading it into barges that will take it to the work area.

The Department of Public Works is working with the contractor to make sure the public is separated from the rock dump area and the construction area.

The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed on January 26, 2021.

Individuals who use the riverfront parking area, and those that use the Riverfront Park amenities are advised to use caution and to avoid the construction areas.
