Press Release:

Tuesday, November 17, 2020

The Muscatine Community School District and the Muscatine School Board have been working together with the Muscatine County Health Department to assess the current health status of our community, and its impact on our students, staff, and families.

Due to the rising case counts of COVID-19, high positivity rate of COVID-19 tests in Muscatine County, and staffing shortages due to staff illness, COVID exposure, and COVID positive across the district, Muscatine Community School District will be moving to a fully virtual learning model beginning Wednesday, November 18th, through Friday, December 4th. During this period of 100% online learning, all in-person activities and practices will be suspended. There will be no school for PK-8 students (this includes virtual PK-8 students) on Wednesday, November 18th to allow for staff professional development in order to prepare for virtual instruction. (MHS students will have virtual learning on Wednesday, November 18th following their hybrid A/B schedule.) Virtual learning for PK-8 will start on Thursday, November 19th.

The district will continue to monitor Muscatine County’s 14-day positivity rate as well as staffing levels for all buildings. Our plan is to have elementary, middle, and high school in-person/hybrid students return to school Monday, December 7th. Should that change, communication will be sent out ahead of time.

Families with students that have an IEP may contact their child’s special education teacher with any questions that they may have in regards to their child’s virtual learning plan that was outlined on page “I” of their IEP.

Stay Informed

As information becomes available, we will post on the district website, send out communications to families via email and phone, post in Class DOJO, publish on social media, and will send out updates through our media partners.

Please do your part to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus so we may return to in-person learning as soon as possible: practice social distancing, properly wear a mask when around others, wash hands, and stay home when sick. We know that this has been a challenging time for many of our families and community members, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we make the tough decisions to do what is right for our students, teachers, staff, and community.

Thank you,

Clint Christopher, Superintendent
