Illinois man arrested after high-speed chase, foot pursuit ·


The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Illinois man early Thursday after a high-speed chase and foot pursuit that ended with the help of Neiko the police K9.

At 2:15 a.m. a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 38 and Highway 61.

The driver failed to stop and led deputies on a high speed chase that ended in the 1000 block of E 2nd Street in Muscatine with the driver fleeing on foot. Muscatine County K-9 Neiko and his handler initiated a track and located the subject hiding in some brush. The driver, James Taets Jr., of Milan, Illinois, was taken into custody and charged with Felony Eluding, Possession of an Incendiary/ Explosive Device, Possession of methamphetamine, Possession of marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Interference with Official Acts and multiple traffic violations for excessive speeds.

His passenger, Amber N. Portugue of Davenport, was charged with Possession of marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and released.
