Muscatine’s Board of Supervisors has authorized the county’s Historic Preservation Commission to submit the Fairport State Fish Hatchery to the National Register of Historic Places.

The hatchery contributed to the local pearl button industry after being operated as a freshwater mussel propagation station starting in 1908 then a hatchery in 1929.
