Hot, dry conditions stress Iowa crops

Mostly hot, dry conditions stress crops across Iowa last week.

The latest USDA crop report says 65 percent of corn is rated good to excellent, down three percent on the week.

Soybeans saw a bigger dip, going from 66 to 61 percent good to excellent.

Crop development remains ahead of normal with more than 20 percent of corn at the dough stage or beyond and more than half of soybeans setting pods.

The second cutting of alfalfa is 83 percent complete, and the third cutting is eight percent done.
