Remains found along Wiggins Road in July identified as missing Blue Grass man

Human remains found along Wiggins Road last month have been identified as those of a Blue Grass man reported missing more than a year ago.

According to the Muscatine County Medical Examiner’s Office, the remains were discovered in the 2500 block of Wiggins Road in Muscatine on July 7 by surveyors working near the Mississippi River levee.

Using x-ray images, the bones were determined to be from Paul Merrill Campbell, 52, who was believed to be missing since July 2020. The medical examiners office said a cause of death has not been determined.

Assisting with the investigation were the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, University of Iowa Decedent Care Center, University of Iowa Anthropology Department, Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office, and Dr. Heather Garvin, Forensic Anthropologist.
