Biden plan to mandate vaccines/testing at large packing plants

President Biden has announced a COVID-19 action plan that would require all employers of 100 or more workers to ensure their workers are vaccinated or tested weekly, which includes most meat packing workers. White House Senior Policy Advisor Cameron Webb tells Brownfield the Tyson Foods mandate – coming from the private sector – has been very successful.

“I believe it was almost half of their unvaccinated workforce became vaccinated after their mandate.”

In the coming weeks, Webb says the Department of Labor will develop a rule for employers to implement through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

“This is just, you know, a doubling down, going a step further to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to keep people safe no matter where they are and that’s in our schools and in our communities but certainly in our places of business as well.”

Before Tyson’s vaccine mandate, 45% of its workforce had gotten a shot and the White House says today it stands at 72% ahead of Tyson’s November 1st deadline.
