Festival of Lights boosts cheer and charity during holiday season

Helping hands from local individuals, organizations, and businesses came together this December to light up Muscatine’s historic Weed Park with the glow of holiday displays that spread joy to the entire community of Muscatine residents and non-residents.

The countdown to Christmas began on December 1 with the beautiful displays shining nightly through December 26.

Visitors were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for admission to the Festival of Lights. Parks and Recreation Department staff delivered fifteen 95-gallon containers over the course of the month. Each container was filled to the brim with the donations benefitting local food pantries organized by the Salvation Army and Muscatine Center for Social Action.

Muscatine Parks and Recreation would like to extend their gratitude to the following individuals and groups who donated their supplies and efforts to make the inaugural Festival of Lights a success: Bayer, UnityPoint Health-Muscatine, Muscatine Master Gardeners, Muscatine Garden Club, Community Bank, Saints Mary and Mathias, HNI Corporation, First National Bank, Menards, Troy Philpott and the family of Jane McFate.

If you would like to learn more about how to get involved in the 2022 Weed Park Festival of Lights, please contact the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at (563) 263-0241.
