Mayor to swear in two police officers this evening; proclaim May 14-20 as Police Week

The Muscatine Robotics Team will be recognized and two new police officers will be sworn in at the start of Thursday’s (May 4) Muscatine City Council meeting. The Robotics Team competed in the World Championship for the second straight year.

The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall. The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend the meeting in person. A virtual option is available for citizens who do not want to attend in-person. Information on joining the virtual session through the GoToMeeting portal is listed below.

The City Council session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Civic-TV (Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2).

Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark will swear in Nathanial Avis and Tylor Staley to service with the Muscatine Police Department, and then sign a proclamation designating May 14-20 as National Police Week in Muscatine. The Robotics Team will then be recognized and provide a demonstration to the City Council.

A public hearing will be held on the FY 2024 Annual Plan and Amendments to the Public Housing Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy. The hearing comes after a 45-day comment period and consultation with the Resident Advisory Board.

Also on the agenda is a resolution awarding Phase 1 of the Fulliam Avenue Reconstruction Project to Heuer Construction, Inc. The project consists of reconstruction of the Fulliam Avenue roadway from Green Acres Drive to Kindler Avenue, including new sidewalk of the south side of Fulliam and storm sewer improvements. The $702,543.50 project will be funded with Road Use Tax in the Roadway Maintenance Budget.
