A detour to bypass construction work associated with Phase 1 of the Fulliam Avenue Reconstruction Project has been announced. The project will be completed in three phases as Fulliam is reconstructed from Kindler to Houser with each two-block phase being completed while school is out for the summer.
Phase I will reconstruct the Fulliam Avenue roadway from Green Acres Drive to Kindler Avenue, including new sidewalks on the south side of Fulliam and storm sewer improvements.
This section of Fulliam Avenue, including the Kindler intersection, is now closed to through traffic as pavement removal has begun. Residents in this area will have access to their homes during most of the reconstruction work except during the actual paving. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed August 11, weather permitting.
The main designated detour will utilize Houser Street on the west, Cedar Street on the north, Hershey Avenue on the south, and a combination of Logan Street, Climer Street, and West 8th Street on the east.
The detour route may change later this summer if the Climer-Logan intersection is closed to traffic as part of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project Phase 5. A secondary detour for the east side of the Fulliam Project will be announced prior to the Climer-Logan intersection closure.
Signage has been put into place to notify drivers of the street closure and detour routes. Drivers are asked to slow down, obey traffic control signage, and be alert for construction workers when in or near work zones.
Heuer Construction, Inc., was awarded the $702,543.50 contract during the May 4, 2023, City Council meeting. Funding for the project comes from Road Use Tax in the Roads Maintenance Budget.
Drivers are reminded to slow down and use caution when travelling through the construction zone, obey traffic control devices, and be aware of workers. Use an alternate route if possible.
