One dead, one in custody following shooting Wednesday – Voice Of Muscatine


One man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting incident on the afternoon of July 19 on Muscatine’s northeast side.

The Muscatine Joint Communication Center (MUSCOM) received a 911 call at 12:37 p.m. of a shooting in apartment 305 at 1716 Bandag Drive, Muscatine. Responding officers found a 41-year-old male victim, who was deceased from a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Jeremy Smith.

Witnesses quickly helped identify a suspect with police initiating a search of the area in an effort to locate the individual. Following an extensive searchof northeast Muscatine, the suspect, Andre Brunnett Jones, 20, (DOB 03/20/2003) was tracked down to 1414 1st Avenue where he surrendered himself toMuscatine Police without incident at 2:18 p.m.

The suspect has been charged with murder in the second degree, a class B felony. He is being held at the Muscatine County Jail.

There is no danger to the public according to Police Chief Tony Kies.

“The community is safe thanks to the quick response and hard work of our officers and all those who assisted in the search and capture of the suspect,” Kies said. “Incident’s like this do not define us but we are left to pick up the pieces and move on.”

The Muscatine Police Department was assisted by several local, county and state agencies throughout the response and subsequent search.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been announced yet.
