Two public hearings, Eagle scout recognition among items for Thursday City Council meeting – Voice Of Muscatine

The Muscatine City Council has a long list of action items to discuss and vote on Thursday, August 3, but there will be some lighter moments with the recognition of an Eagle scout and the swearing in of four new firefighters.

The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall. The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend the meeting in person. A virtual option is available for citizens who do not want to attend in-person. Information on joining the virtual session is listed below.

The City Council session will also be broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel and on Civic-TV (Muscatine Power & Water Cable Channel 2).

Mayor Brad Bark and Sheriff Quinn Reese will recognize Muscatine’s newest Eagle Scout, Sadler Gerdts, at the start of proceedings Thursday. The Mayor will also be swearing into service four new firefighters (Aaron Meredith, Skylar Duncan, Chad Whitehall, and Marissa Janssen) who will begin their recruit training next week at Station 2.

Two public hearings will be held with the Council voting on the subject matter later in the meeting. The first public hearing is in regards to a proposed development agreement with Musco Sports Lighting, LLC, for Phase 1 of their project to expand the Muscatine facility. The second public hearing is in regards to the plans and specifications for the 2nd Avenue Storm Sewer Project that is focused on reducing standing water in the 2200 block of 2nd Avenue during heavy rains.

The Council will also be asked to set August 17 as the date for five public hearings regarding a development agreement with Kent Pet Group, Inc., changes to Title 3, Chapter 2 of City Code, changes to Title 11 of City Code, the declaration of city owned property as surplus (619 Hope Ave.) and authorizing sale of the property, and revisions to the Airport Zoning Ordinance.

Among the other items on the agenda:

  • Approval of contract and bond for the Soccer Complex Irrigation Replacement Project;
  • Approval of an agreement with PetData to provide pet licensing and approval of a change to pet licensing fees;
  • Approval of a professional services agreement with I & S Group, Inc., for the Muscatine Indoor Sports Complex Project.
