Exhibition reception for the late Jon Fasanelli-Cawelti exhibit to be held September 24 – Voice Of Muscatine

The public is invited to attend the exhibition reception for late artist Jon Fasanelli-Cawelti, featuring music by Bill Anson and the Mad Creek Mudcats from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Muscatine Art Center.

Celebrate the life, work, and musical passion of Jon Fasanelli-Cawelti during this free reception. Bill Anson will perform from 1:30-3:00 p.m., and the Mad Creek Mudcats will perform from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Both performances are planned to be outside in the Brad Burns Performance Park. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the performances will be held in the gallery.

In this first major exhibition of Fasanelli-Cawelti’s work since his passing in 2021, the artist’s love of music, playing the trumpet, and performing with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra and Mad Creek Mudcats permeate into this body of work. A true Renaissance man, art, music, philosophy, literature, and history were part of his everyday life.

For more than fourteen years, Fasanelli-Cawelti served as assistant to the world renowned printmaker Mauricio Lasansky. A selection of Lasansky’s portraits from the Muscatine Art Center’s permanent collection will be on view on the second floor of the Stanley Gallery from September 21, 2023 through January 28, 2024.
