Paving of Lucas Street from the 2000 block to Newell Avenue will begin on Saturday, September 9, according to Hagerty Earthworks, Inc., prime contractor for Phase 5 of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project.
Lucas Street is tentatively scheduled to reopen to traffic sometime between Sept. 25 and Sept. 30, depending on any weather delays, and completion of construction activity.
Paving of Lucas from Logan to the 2000 block of Lucas was completed last month while Haggerty completed underground work through the Fletcher intersection. Heuer Construction, Inc., the paving subcontractor, plans to pave the main line of Lucas (the driving lanes) from the 2000 block to the Climer intersection on Saturday and then pave Lucas from Climer through the Fletcher intersection on Tuesday, weather permitting.
Heuer Construction will complete the curbs and gutters from the 2000 block to Climer late next week and then complete the curbs and gutters from Climer to Fletcher during the week of September 18. Work on replacing driveways and any sidewalks that were removed for the underground work along with installing the tops to the storm sewer inlets will follow. The City of Muscatine, Hagerty Earthworks, and Heuer Construction have worked with the residents to maintain access to their homes.
Work to reconstruct Knott will begin once work on Lucas has been completed.
WEST FULLIAM AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION UPDATE
All sidewalks and retaining walls will be completed by next week with the final construction activity being the pouring of the intakes for the storm sewer. Phase 1 of the West Fulliam Avenue Reconstruction Project should be wrapped up by the end of the month.
The driving lanes along with curb and gutter were completed on time allowing the contractor, Heuer Construction, Inc., to open the street up to traffic prior to the start of the new school year.
Phase 1 reconstructed West Fulliam from Kindler to West Acre Drive. Phase 2 is tentatively planned for Summer 2024 with Phase 3 set for Summer 2025.
PHASE 6 WEST HILL SANITARY & STORM SEWER SEPARATION PROJECT
Installation of a new sanitary sewer on Sycamore Street has been completed through the East 10th Street intersection. Prime contractor KE Flatworks, Inc., is currently working on installation of a new water main from Sycamore to East 10th and on East 9th Street. The tentative schedule has the contractor working on sanitary sewer on East 9th and East 10th between Sycamore and Iowa before beginning the process of repaving of these sections.
DRIVERS BEWARE
Drivers are reminded to slow down and use caution when travelling in or around construction zones, to obey traffic control devices, and be aware of the presence of construction workers and/or pedestrians. Use an alternate route if possible to avoid delays due to the construction activity.
