Creative writers from Muscatine County are now being sought for the Wandering Words Sidewalk Poetry Competition sponsored by the Muscatine County Arts Council.
All Muscatine county residents are invited to submit up to two poems. Poems may be previously published but must be the original work of the entrant. Text and subject matter must be appropriate for the general public.
Poems may be up to 8 lines, each line having no more than 25 characters including spaces and punctuation. A title will count as two lines.
Each poet must include a cover page with name, home address, phone number, email address, and title or first line of each poem submitted.
Poets retain full copyright of their poems. By entering the contest, poets agree that the Muscatine County Arts Council and the City of Muscatine may freely use or print their poems in whole or in part for promotional, documentary, or celebratory purposes.
Mailed entries must be postmarked before April 30 to Muscatine County Arts Council, PO Box 815, Muscatine IA 52761-0815
Submitted poems will be reviewed in a blind judging process where five winners will be selected. The five winning authors will receive $50 each and their poems will be engraved into sidewalks in the City. Entries must be submitted by Tuesday, April 30, to WanderingWordsMuscatine@gmail.com.
There is no entry fee to submit poems.
