A Muscatine woman faces 67 counts of animal neglect following her arrest July 9 following an investigation by the Muscatine Sheriff’s Department.
Kelly Marie Adams, 44, of 2431 Highway 22, Muscatine, was arrested on July 9, 2024, and charged with six counts of Animal Neglect Resulting in Serious Injury or Death under Iowa Code 717B.3(5) and 61 counts of Animal Neglect No Injury under Iowa Code 717B.3(3). The charges were filed on July 8, 2024.
On June 17, 2024, a search warrant was executed by the Muscatine Sheriff’s Office at 2431 Highway 22, Muscatine. The warrant was obtained in connection to an animal neglect investigation, and as a result 67 animals were seized and removed from the property.
The animals have since been cared for by personnel with It Takes a Village Animal Rescue and Resources (ITAVARR) out of Muscatine. ITAVARR has been assisted by local veterinarians in the screening, examinations, and necropsies of the animals.
On July 3, 2024, a hearing was held regarding a Petition for Disposition, with the county asking the courts to order the animals be considered “abused”, “neglected”, “mistreated”, and/or “threatened” and then for the disposition of said animals in accordance with Iowa Code. That Petition for Disposition is still pending.
The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office would once again like to thank ITAVARR, the local veterinarians, and the Muscatine Police Department Animal Control for their assistance in this case.
