Drivers are reminded that the access roads inside Greenwood Cemetery are not to be used as a pass through around the street construction currently underway on Lucas Street. The access roads are for family visiting loved ones in the cemetery and for caretakers of the grave sites. Lucas Street is closed to through traffic from Logan to Newell as work is underway in the Lucas-Logan intersection.
The official detour has northbound traffic on Lucas detoured to West 8th Street, to Broadway, to Newell, and back to Lucas Street. Southbound traffic on Lucas is detoured to Newell, to Broadway, to West 8th Street, and back to Lucas Street.
The Greenwood Cemetery office and retail sales center, located south of the Logan-Lucas intersection at 1814 Lucas Street, is accessible by taking Lucas from the West 8th Street intersection. The office remains open during regular business hours.
The annual Greenwood Cemetery cleanup is underway and officials are concerned that damage to the cemetery grounds, gravesites, or to those working on cleaning up the cemetery could occur if drivers use the cemetery to bypass construction.
Grave decorations include, but are not limited to, wreaths, silk flowers, grave blankets, wooden crosses, toys, cobblestones, and potted plants. Undecorated metal shepherd’s hooks, Remembrance Vigil Candles, and Solar Lights will not be removed.
New grave decorations may be brought in after Saturday, April 1, 2023, with no more than two decorations per grave site.
