Muscatine County Confirms 2nd Outbreak in a Long-Term Care Center

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Muscatine County Public Health have
identified 8 cases with several pending tests of COVID-19 in a long-term care facility in
Muscatine County. The cases include both staff and residents at Lutheran Living Senior
Campus. According to IDPH, an outbreak is when three or more cases of COVID-19 are
identified among residents of a facility.
The facility has notified residents and their families, and consistent with IDPH
guidelines, the affected residents are in isolation. Lutheran Living Senior Campus staff
are working closely with IDPH and Muscatine County Public Health to protect the health
of their residents and staff, with additional testing of residents and staff as directed by
IDPH.

“Continuing to protect the health and wellbeing of the residents and staff is our highest
priority,” said Muscatine County Public Health Director Christy Roby Williams. “We are
in constant communication and consultation with Lutheran Living. We know their
residents are at the highest risk for serious COVID-19 illness. They are taking the
maximum precautions to contain and prevent further virus spread.”

As of today, April 16, 2020 in Muscatine County there are 148 total cases of COVID-19,
2 long-term care outbreaks, 11 hospitalized, 2 deaths and 44 people have recovered. The
Muscatine County Health Department continues to work directly with the Iowa
Department of Public Health (IDPH), and other state and local partners to respond to this
ongoing pandemic. “The Iowa Department of Public Health is doing a fantastic job
supporting our local county health departments and the residents we are all called to care
for. I can’t thank them enough for their expertise and efficient responses, “said Roby
Williams.
