Signing day for Muscatine senior
On Friday, June 12, a Career Signing Day ceremony was held to honor Jordan Whitworth, newly hired by the Weitz Company, a general contractor from Eastern Iowa. Whitworth is a graduate of Muscatine High School.
Career Signing Day is a time for high school and college graduates to officially sign-on to begin employment with a construction contractor who will sponsor them throughout their carpenter apprenticeship and provide on-the-job training. This celebration honors both graduate and contractor, providing a pivotal moment in these students’ lives during a time graduation ceremonies are being cancelled. Many of them, like Whitworth, have gone through years of classroom training in preparation for this day. It is a moment they and their families will cherish.
Whitworth will become a member of the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters (NCSRCC). We would like to congratulate Whitworth for his hard work and dedication to learning a trade that will provide him good pay, great benefits, and dignity in both work and retirement.
Many people are experiencing difficult times during this pandemic. However, students like Whitworth continue to choose the trades for the importance of the work they provide for all of society, for the rewarding career it offers, and for the opportunity to learn and build a career. The work they do is essential and relied upon by everyone.
North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters (NCSRCC) represents 27,000 members in 46 Locals and 17 training centers throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Members in the six-state area include carpenters, industrial workers, interior systems carpenters, millwrights, pile drivers and floor coverers.
