The Muscatine Aquatic Center is closed today (June 9) for Iowa State Code required maintenance following a contamination incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon. The Aquatic Center will reopen to the public at 12 p.m. Thursday.

A loose stool contamination of the Aquatic Center water occurred late Tuesday afternoon with Parks and Recreation Department officials closing the pool at 5:30 p.m. to begin sanitizing the pool. Part of that process is lowering the water level and super chlorinating the water to remove any potential bacteria from the contamination.

Parks and Recreation staff will be raising the water level today and balancing the chemistry to ensure a safe environment for all patrons once the pool opens Thursday.

The wearing of appropriate swimwear, including swim diapers for toddlers, are recommended when enjoying the Aquatic Center facility. Swim diapers are available for purchase at the Aquatic Center.
