Habitat for Humanity groundbreaking ceremony happening Saturday in Muscatine – Voice Of Muscatine

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Muscatine County Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony for a new home that will provide affordable housing for the Stasha Wilks family. The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on March 23 on the future home site at 619 Hope Avenue, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for both the Muscatine Habitat organization and the Wilks family.

Muscatine County Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit agency that builds or furbishes houses for qualifying homebuyers through an affordable habitat mortgage. Construction of the Habitat for Humanity house is entirely volunteer-based and is the result of a collaborative effort between volunteers, donors, and community partners who have come together to make a positive impact on the lives of others. This project embodies the mission of Habitat for Humanity to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

Don Lampe, Muscatine County Habitat Director, explains that the organization offers families in need a zero percent interest mortgage for an energy-efficient and affordable home, helping to make them more financially stable.

“I really see it as a hand-up, not a hand-out,” Lampe said. “It’s going to offer the family financial stability by making the house affordable. It’s a zero percent interest mortgage, which is life changing. Our families learn a lot of things through-out the building process, and we know that they are going to succeed because we are here for them every step of the way.”

Lampe said the organization works with families during the time leading up to a home’s construction to prepare them for the financial ebbs and flows of homeownership.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from key stakeholders involved in the project, including Habitat for Humanity representatives, volunteers, and the future homeowners. The event will also include a symbolic turning of the soil to signify the start of construction.
