Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 21, 2020, as the Thanksgiving holiday gobbles its way to a running (or walking) start with the 2020 Muscatine Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course. The event is hosted by the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department and the Muscatine Running Club.
The “Predict Your Time” format of the race allows the competition runner, novice jogger, and avid walker to participate equally in the event. Those who predict their finishing time the closest in each age group will be awarded a frozen Thanksgiving turkey. However, only one turkey may be won per family.
The cross country course will be set up at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course with two starting times for the races. Participants 14-years-old and under will run a one-mile course beginning at 10:00 a.m. while participants who are 15-years-old and older will run a three-mile course starting at 10:30 a.m.
There will be male and female divisions for all ages including 11-year-olds and under, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and older.
No participant will be allowed to use any kind of a timing device and no splits will be provided as each participant competes against each other for the closest predicted time. The actual time will be recognized as either plus or minus to the predicted time.
The entry fee is $15.00 if registered by Monday, November 2. The fee increases to $20.00 on November 3, but contestants can register up to race time. T-shirts will be given to all registered participants. Late or day-of-race registrants are not guaranteed t-shirts on the day of the event.
Anyone interested in participating can register between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department, 215 Sycamore St., or from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on the day of the race at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course. Registration forms with check payment may be mailed to the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department office and can be found online at www.muscatineiowa.gov/509/Special-Events.
